These amazingly soothing and fragrant incense cones and stick are made from charcoal with no wood filler, so you get the clearest, purest scent without as much smoke. This is part of our Gods & Goddesses series of scented charcoal incense, with a unique blend of rainwater, petrichor (the scent of damp earth or rock after the rain), and ozone to represent Danu (also known as Ana or Anu), the Celtic mother goddess.

In Celtic mythology, the goddess Danu, also known as Anu or Dana, is the ancient mother of all gods and of the Celtic people. She was thought to be both the original goddess and god, an all-encompassing deity who gave birth to everything and everyone. She’s often associated with Earth, waters, winds, fertility, and wisdom.

The first story depicting the goddess Danu was that of Bile and Dagda. Bile was the god of light and healing, appearing as an oak tree in the story. Oak trees were thought to be sacred because of their exceptional height. People believed they were connected to the divine because their branches extended up into the sky and heavens. Similarly, their roots stretched deep down underground, touching the Underworld.

In the story, the goddess Danu was responsible for the tree, feeding and nurturing it. From this union between Bile and Danu, Dagda was born. Dagda literally translates to the good god and was the chief leader of the Tuatha de Danann. Therefore, it was believed that Danu was the mother of Dagda.

The Great Mother is one of the most ancient Celtic deities and has many different symbolic meanings. She’s been associated with abundance, fertility, wisdom, knowledge, water, wind, and wealth. As Tuatha de Danann were believed to be the wise alchemists of ancient Ireland, their Mother Goddess was also considered the patroness of wizards, prosperity, wells, rivers, plenty, and magic.

Incense Cone Burning Instructions:

πŸŒ› Prepare a place to set your incense cone after it is lit. You should pick a fireproof surface that won't be damaged by heat or direct fire, such as an incense burner specially made for burning incense cones, foil on top of the sand in a large clay or metal container, Anything that's heat-resistant and will hold the cone is a suitable container. Make sure you place the container away from anything flammable, such as curtains, lampshades, or paper.

πŸŒ› Light the smallest end of the incense cone at the tip. You will want to keep the end lit with a flame on it for 30-60 seconds, or until the tip of the cone glows orange *all the way across it* when the flame is extinguished. You want a nice, solid orange glow at the top of the incense cone - once you've established a nice solid orange glow on the top, extinguish the flame by blowing it out, or using a candle snuffer if you prefer. If it is not lit thoroughly before extinguishing the flame, your cone will not burn, it will just go out, so keep it lit with a flame until you achieve that solid orange coal burning.

πŸŒ› After getting the top lit with a strong orange burn and then extinguishing the flame itself, set the incense cone down on your prepared surface or incense cone burner and enjoy!

All incense will produce smoke, but our incense smoke is only pure fragrance, unlike most incense which is made mostly of wood filler. Without wood filler, you get pure fragrance!
